Today I was fortunate to attend a tasting of the Hope Family Wines. A handful of us were welcomed to a late lunch at Canteen on 124th Street. Meliza who is in charge of the Canadian market for the Austin Hope wines led us through a tasting of a wide range of their wines. We tasted:

More elegance than a person might expect from California Chardonnay. With only 8000 cases made it comes from the best vintage in St.Lucia since ’96. Lush fruity attack with highlights of roasted, buttered pineapple with great acidity and flavour. Gorgeous, Lush and detailed, the blend is 50/50 Viognier and Marsanne. The finish offers crazy notes of fresh lime, peach and papaya. +557660. $$

Notes of cut wood and pepper. Smoky perfume. It’s GSM with a Zinfandel twist. Big juicy attack. Fun, flirty and very drinky with a root-beer finish. +716617 $$

All in all a wonderful tasting. The crew at Canteen served up heaps of their tasty menu items. The chick pea fries were a standout as well as the chicken liver financiers and creamy coleslaw with a sweet potato dressing. the meatballs were pretty awesome too.  All I can do is recommend you pay a visit to Canteen and hope thy have some of these fabulous wines by the glass!
