I’ve always fantasized about being a product ambassador. Imagine that your job was to learn about a line of soulful wines and then to travel around the world and educate other like-minded people about those wines. It’s a dream.

Well, at least in my imagination it’s a dream. In reality it’s likely a long slow grind of airports, hotel rooms and restaurants as you ply your wares through city after city, restaurant after restaurant, wine-buyer after wine buyer.

Which brings me to my real life where I get to meet product ambassadors from all over the world. I am the lucky recipient of the goodness supplied by agents and wineries in good old YEG.

I do my best. Always try to arrive on time and take notes so that I don’t forget all the wonderful wines which come my way.

Recently I had lunch at The Marc with Stacey Jo Strombecky, Mary Bailey and Flavien Lepert who represents Langlois Chateau Vignobles & Cremants de Loire from Saumur in France. Langlois Chateau have been a division of James Bond’s favorite Champagne house, Bollinger since 1973 so I knew I was in for a treat.

Flavien epitomizes the perfect product ambassador. He is knowledgeable, personable, passionate, handsome and well dressed. We had a wonderful lunch as always at The Marc and as we ate we tasted through seven sustainably produced wines chatting amiably the entire time. Yes. This is my job!

We tasted:

Cremant de Loire Brut – Toasted citrus nose. Super bright attack of lovely lean fruit and a wonderful expressive finish. +588780 $$

Sancerre La Fontaine Audon 2013 – Fresh cut grass and lime peel, white peach and snapdragon. Perfect, elegant attack. Classic Sauvignon fruit. Delicate earthiness and a long light finish.+748300 $$   ❤

Sancerre Rouge 2014 – Not produced every year, this wine is said to be very chi-chi aux Paris! Light clear ruby hue. Earthy cherry caramel nose with wonderful herbaceous notes. Lean bright attack. Great fruit, easy to take tannins and big big flavour. +771231 $$   ❤   ❤

Saumur 2013 – Super savoury nose of black plum and blueberry. Very lean sour cherry attack.Calacareous soil expressed beautifully on the palate with elegant fruit and lean but wide open tannins. Mary calls it very sour cherry/floral. +771230 $   ❤

Cremant de Loire Rose Cabernet Franc. 12 hour maceration.Juicy strawberry, raspberry, graphite nose with a hint of menthol. Wonderful fresh attack. Superfine mousse. Lovely. +719035 $$

Cabernet d’Anjou 2014 – Very clear light salmon hue. Tart mineral nose with hints of Skadiddle Kiddles and spice. Super soft attack of lovely sweet fruit witha touch of  minerality and an easy soft finish.11% Fun. ❤  Really unusual. +748335 $

Cremant Carmin – Wonderful sparkling Cabernet Franc. This pretty wine is a great alternative to Lambrusco with a plush cherry attack. Perfect as an aperitif and to accompany fresh fruit or (gasp!) even chocolate.

It isn’t every day that I get to enjoy such elegant lunches but I appreciate them to the fullest when I do. Look for the Cremant de Loire, Sancerre Rouge and  the Sancerre La Fontaine Audon along with Bollinger Champagne at Sherbrooke Liquor this month!
